Getting Started

How do I get started with Signaloo?

Open Signaloo, set a display name (up to 30 characters) and a status message (up to 100 characters). Optionally add a profile photo. Then tap "Start Sharing" to become visible to other nearby Signaloo users.

Do I need to create an account?

No account required. Signaloo works immediately after download with no sign-up, email, or password needed.

Does Signaloo work without Wi-Fi or cellular data?

Yes — Signaloo uses only Bluetooth LE (Low Energy). You can disable Wi-Fi and cellular entirely and the app will still work perfectly.

What is the range of Signaloo?

Bluetooth LE typically has a range of 10–30 meters depending on the environment. Open spaces have better range than areas with many walls or interference.

Bluetooth & Permissions

Why does Signaloo need Bluetooth permission?

Bluetooth is the sole communication technology Signaloo uses to discover nearby users and exchange status information. Without Bluetooth, the app cannot function.

Does Signaloo need location permission?

No. Signaloo does not use GPS or Core Location at all. Distance is estimated from Bluetooth signal strength (RSSI) only — no location services are needed or requested.

My Bluetooth is on but no one appears — what should I check?

1) Make sure the other person also has Signaloo open and has tapped 'Start Sharing'. 2) Both devices need to have Bluetooth enabled in iOS Settings. 3) Move closer — Bluetooth range is roughly 10–30 meters. 4) Try toggling sharing off, waiting 3 seconds, then back on.

Does Signaloo work in the background?

Yes. With Bluetooth background modes enabled, Signaloo continues scanning and advertising even when not in the foreground. iOS may reduce scanning frequency in the background to conserve battery, but discovery will still work.

Privacy & Safety

What data does Signaloo collect about me?

None. Signaloo collects zero personal data. Your name, status, and optional photo are shared peer-to-peer via Bluetooth only — never sent to any server. There is no Signaloo backend.

How do I go invisible / stop sharing?

Tap the sharing toggle on the main screen or tap 'Stop Sharing'. You will instantly disappear from all nearby users' screens.

How do I block someone?

Tap on any person's card to open the detail view. Scroll to the bottom and tap 'Block'. Blocked users are stored locally on your device and will never appear in your Signaloo again.

How do I report someone?

Tap on the person's card, scroll to the bottom, and tap 'Report'. Enter a reason and submit. Reports are stored locally on your device — they are not transmitted anywhere.

Does my status expire automatically?

Yes. Your status automatically stops broadcasting after 30 minutes of sharing. You can restart sharing at any time.

App Features

How do I change my theme?

Go to Settings (gear icon) > Themes. There are 6 themes: Signaloo, Lavender, Midnight, Ocean, Neon Wave, and Bubblegum. Tap any theme to apply it instantly.

What do the distance labels mean?

'Close' means approximately 0–10 meters away. 'Nearby' means roughly 10–20 meters. 'Far' means 20–30+ meters. These are estimates based on Bluetooth signal strength.

Can I add a profile photo?

Yes. Tap your avatar on the Profile screen, then choose 'Take Photo' or 'Choose from Library'. Photos are compressed and transmitted via Bluetooth to nearby users.

What languages does Signaloo support?

Signaloo is available in English, Spanish (Español), French (Français), and German (Deutsch). The app automatically uses your iPhone's language setting.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall Signaloo from your iPhone. All locally stored data (name, status, photo, UUID, block list) is permanently deleted with the app. There is no server-side data to delete.

Quick Troubleshooting

Can't see any nearby users

  1. 1.Ensure Bluetooth is ON in iOS Settings > Bluetooth
  2. 2.Make sure both you and the other person have tapped "Start Sharing"
  3. 3.Move within 10–20 meters of each other
  4. 4.Try toggling sharing off, waiting 3 seconds, then back on
  5. 5.Restart Bluetooth on both devices (Settings > Bluetooth > off/on)

Signaloo draining battery faster than expected

  1. 1.Bluetooth LE is low-power but background scanning does use some battery
  2. 2.Stop sharing when not actively using the app
  3. 3.Enable Low Power Mode in iOS Settings when battery is low
  4. 4.Note: iOS automatically reduces BLE scanning frequency in background

App crashes or behaves unexpectedly

  1. 1.Force-quit Signaloo and reopen it
  2. 2.Ensure you are running the latest version of Signaloo from the App Store
  3. 3.Restart your iPhone
  4. 4.If the problem persists, please contact us with your iPhone model and iOS version
